 About the Simandou project

The Simandou iron ore project (Blocks 3 & 4) is in the Republic of Guinea (West Africa). It is a high-quality, world class iron ore deposit, and is one of the largest known iron ore reserves in the world.

The Simandou South project is being managed within the framework of the Simfer joint-venture in which the Guinean government owns a 15% stake, and Rio Tinto and Chinalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH) own 45.05% and 39.95%, respectively. They continue to work with the Guinean government on exploring the options available for mining the Simandou iron ore deposit, as well as potential mechanisms for working together on developing the infrastructure required for the project and for the mining operations.
